The Perth Mint of Australia released the 2017 edition of the Australian Wedge-Tailed Eagle Silver Bullion Coin, third in “The Silver Wedge-Tailed Eagle Series”. This 1oz of 99.99% pure silver coin designed by John M. Mercanti, the Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint from 2006 to 2010. The first coin released in 2015 and continued in 2016 to represent one of the most breathtaking sights in the Australian sky – a Wedge-tailed Eagle. The 2017 Australian Wedge-Tailed Eagle 1 oz Silver Proof High Relief Coin is struck by The Perth Mint in proof quality, and issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. The Perth Mint will issue no more than 10,000 of the Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle 2017 1oz Silver High Relief Coin.
The reverse of the coin features Australia’s largest eagle (wedge tailed eagle) perched on a tree branch. Around the image are engravings of AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE, 2017, 1oz 9999 SILVER for the coin’s weight and purity, and a ‘P’ mint mark to denote its production at the Perth Mint. The obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with encircling inscriptions of ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 1 DOLLAR for the coin’s monetary denomination. This coin presented in a classic Perth Mint presentation case with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The exceptional features of the coin will be described in detail on the acrylic case’s label, which will also come hand-signed by the designer John Mercanti.
