The Perth Mint issued the 2017 Tuvalu Diwali Festival 1oz. Silver 1 Dollar Coin, this coin is a legal tender issued under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu with a face value of $1. The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver. Diwali, also known as the “Festival of Lights,” celebrated by hundreds of millions of people every year. The main theme of the festival is the triumph of light over darkness, goodness over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair.
The obverse of the coin features full color portrait of the goddess Lakshmi sitting on a lotus flower with gold coins pouring out of her hands, symbolizing material and spiritual wealth. The legend reads HAPPY DIWALI. The Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark is placed to the lower right, near the rim. The reverse features Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. This portrait, featuring Her Majesty wearing a tiara and pearl earrings, was executed by the sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley. The legend 1 OZ 9999 SILVER guarantees the weight and purity. The legend QUEEN ELIZABETH II, the 2017 year-date and the monetary denomination also inscribed.
The Perth Mint released only 5000 of the Diwali Festival 2017 1oz Silver Coin. This Government of Tuvalu legal tender is presented in a contemporary latex case which displays both sides of the coin and comes with a serialized Certificate of Authenticity.
