2018 Georgian Independence Day Centenary Anniversary 10 GEL Silver Coin

The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) will issue a 10 GEL (Georgian Lari) silver coin on 26th May 2018 to celebrate Georgian Independence Day. The coin minted at the Fabrica Nacional Moneda y Timbre Real Casa de la Moneda in Madrid, Spain, on behalf of the National Bank of Georgia. The coin designed by the great artist Mamuka Gongadze. The current Republic of Georgia has been independent since 1991. There were several attempted independence movements during the nineteenth century, after the Russian Revolution of 1917 Georgia declared as an independent state with the help of Britain. The Bolsheviks later re-conquered Georgia and bottled-up all independence movements. Independence was once again sought after the official fall of the Soviet Union in December 1991. The referendum on the 31st March 1991, with an official declaration being made by the Georgian Supreme Council on the 9th April 1991.

The reverse of the 2018 Georgian Independence Day collectors coin features the flying flag and the coat of arms of Georgia with the inscriptions: საქართველო, 10 ლარი, 2018, and GEORGIA. The obverse depicts the national flag of Georgia and state emblem — the heraldic symbols of the Democratic Republic of Georgia from 1918-1921. The following inscriptions are also included in the obverse: 26 მაისი 1918 (“26th May 1918”), საქართველოს დემოკრატიული რესპუბლიკა (“Democratic Republic of Georgia”), 10 ₾ (“10 Lari”).

This 15.5 gram proof silver coin minted of .925 Silver and having 33 mm diameter. The special colored independence day commemorative coin having a limited mintage of 1500 coins worldwide.
