Italian Mint IPZS released the second coin of the “Roman Emperors Series” (Serie Imperatori Romani) dedicated to Emperor Trajan, one of the greatest Roman emperors (From 98 A.D. to 117 A.D.) The First coin of the Roman Emperors Series was released in 2017 which showcased Emperor Hadrian. The 2018 Trajan €10 Commemorative .900 Gold Coin is 13.85 mm in diameter and weighs 3 grams.
Marcus Ulpius Traianus, known as “Trajan” was born in the Roman province of Baetica (now in Spain). He became a provincial governor in and 67–68 he promoted as the commander of a legion in the war against the Jews led by Emperor Vespasian. In 91 Emperor Domitian allowed him to hold one of the two consulships – highest of the ordinary magistracies in the ancient Roman Empire. After the assassination of Domitian, Nerva becomes the ruler of the Roman regime and he adopted Trajan as his successor. On January 27 or 28, after the death of the Emperor Nerva Caesar Augustus Trajan was accepted as emperor by both the armies and the Senate. Trajan Died on 9 August 117 at the age of 63 in Selinus, Cilicia and buried in Rome.
The reverse of this 2018 Roman Emperor Commemorative coin is designed by Claudia Momoni. The reverse reproduces the profile of Marcus Ulpius Nerva Traianus, Roman Emperor from 98 to 117 A.D. Around the portrait the inscription reads as ‘REPVBBLICA ITALIANA’. The obverse features a view of the honorary Arch of Trajan in Benevento, build by resolution by the Roman Senate at the intersection of via Appia and via Traiana, on a route connecting Rome to the port of Brindisi. Inside the arch is the letter R is engraved to represent the mint- the Mint of Rome. The name ‘TRAIANVS’ at the bottom of the coin, denomination of 10 EURO, The Year of production “2018” the name of the designer ‘MOMONI’ also can be found at the obverse of this .900 proof gold coin. The mintage of this 10 Euro gold coin is limited to 1500 coins worldwide.
