The Royal Canadian Mint has released the 2018 Norse Figureheads- Viking Voyage $20 Silver Coin. This is the third and final silver coin of the series “Norse Figureheads” which focuses on Viking Age and the connection with North America and early Viking explorations. The other 2 coins in this series were “Northern Fury” and “Dragon’s Sail“ Viking ships were marine vessels of unique design and Norse Vikings sail from their homelands in Scandinavia as far as north to the Barents Sea; east to the Caspian Sea; south to North Africa; and west to Canada’s North Atlantic coastline by relying on their senses, intuition and knowledge.

The coin minted from 1 ounce of 99.99% pure silver and having a diameter of 38mm. The reverse of the coin designed by Neil Hamlin, features an inventive representation of a Viking ship at sea with a special focus on the commanding nature of its fearsome dragon figurehead. The reverse design also features a frame where the four runic letters that represent the cardinal points (north, east, south and west), a tribute to the exploratory spirit and seafaring nature of the Vikings. The obverse of the coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt along with the coin face value 20 DOLLARS.

The coins mintage limited to 6,000 coins worldwide. The 2018 Norse Figureheads Viking Voyage $20 proof silver coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box with a certificate of Authority from the Royal Canadian Mint.
