Apollo 11 Moon Landing Commemorative Domed Coin
On April 8th 2019 the Pobjoy Mint has released a new Silver Ultra High Relief and Domed coin to mark the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 Moon Landing. The coin Issued on behalf of the Government of Ascension Island – a British Overseas Territory with a face value of 1 Crown. The high relief .999 pure fine silver coin weighs 1oz Fine Silver Piedfort (2oz in total weight) and the coin diameter is 38.60mm.
Apollo 11 launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on July 16 1969 with its 3 crew members – Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, Buzz Aldrin. Apollo 11 successfully landed on the moon’s surface on 20 July 1969 and Neil Armstrong confirmed the lunar module landing to the mission control in Houston with the historic words ‘the Eagle has landed’. Six hours after the lunar landing Neil Armstrong took his first steps on the moon’s surface making his famous statement” “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”.
This unique Ultra High Relief and Domed coin features the surface of the moon with its rough terrain and craters rising from the surface. NASA granted special permission to the Pobjoy Mint to include the ‘meatball’ logo and the Apollo 11 crew patch. The coin also features the footprint left by the astronauts on the lunar surface and the American flag. The exclusive Pobjoy Mint effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II features at the obverse of the coin.
This special Doomed .999 fine Silver coin comes with a serialized Certificate of Authenticity and presented in an acrylic capsule and Pobjoy Mint branded beautiful black box. The coin has a limited mintage of 650 coins world wide.
