2019 Hatching Hadrosaur $20 Pure Silver Coin from the Royal Canadian Mint

The Royal Canadian Mint has released new silver Proof coin “Hatching Hadrosaur” that glows in the dark. This is the first ever egg-shaped dinosaur coin from the Royal Canadian Mint. The coin theme based on the discovery of one of North America’s largest dinosaur nesting sites in 1987 at Devil’s Coulee, in southern Alberta, Canada. The palaeontologists from the Royal Tyrrell Museum unearthed the fossilized remains of Hypacrosaurus stebingeri eggs, nests and even embryos which is a rare find for a species that roamed the land 75 million years ago.

The new $ 20 egg-shaped pure silver coin are designed by Julius T. Csotonyi,and its reviewed and approved by the palaeontologists at the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology in Drumheller, Alberta, The Hypacrosaurus species belonged to the hadrosaur ((meaning “bulky lizards”) )family, dubbed the “duck-billed dinosaurs,” which were one of the most common dinosaurs to roam North America during the Late Cretaceous period. When the coin is viewed in the dark, a glow-in-the-dark application reveals fossilized remains that are based on those uncovered at Devil’s Coulee in southern Alberta. The obverse features the effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth II created by Susanna Blunt and has been seen on all circulation and many commemorative coins since 2003.

The new Dinosaur egg coin minted from .999 pure silver, weighs 31.8 gram (1 oz,)> the coin has a limited mintage of 4,000 coins worldwide. The Proof and color quality coins are encapsulated and presented in a RCM branded case along with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
