The United Arab Emirates hosting the Expo 2020 in Dubai and was Originally scheduled to start on 20th October 2020. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the event pushed to 1st October 2021. To commemorate the Expo 2020, The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates has released new limited silver Proof coins. The coin is produced by the New Zealand Mint and it’s a legal tender in UAE with a face value of 50 Dirhams.
The Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) is the organizer of the WORLD EXPO events and the 2020 EXPO awarded to the United Arab Emirates on 27th November 2013. BIE organizes the world expo’s as an opportunity for people around the globe to experience the best of art, technology, culture, innovation, and invention under a roof. The First World EXPO was in 1851 hosted by London and since then the World Expo’s are conducted every 5 years The EXPO 2020 will be the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East and the United Arab Emirates will be the first Arab nation to host it. As of now, there are 192 nations, states, and territories registered to participate in the EXPO 2020.
The EXPO 2020 .999 pure silver coin weighs 40rrams, with a diameter of 40mm. The reverse of the coin includes the face value of the coin “50 DIRHAMS” in Arabic along with the issuing authority “UNITED ARAB EMIRATES” along the upper and lower edges. The obverse of the coin features the official logo of the Expo 2020 Below the logo, the text EXPO 2020, along with UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, both in English and Arabic engraved. The Coin Weight “40 GRAMS” purity “999 FINE SILVER” also can be found at the obverse design.
The EXPO 2020 coins have a limited mintage of 2020 coins worldwide. The coins are encapsulated and presented in a special EXPO 2020 case along with a numbered certificate of authority. The coins can be ordered directly from the New Zealand Mint website.
